Science Week 2019
Science Week is an exciting and innovative annual event across the country. As this event unfolded from the 9th to the 23rd November 2019, all the children in St. Louis Infant School were transformed into 'Little Einsteins' for the duration of Science Week. It is an event which the children look forward to every year within the school as they look forward in anticipation to their own class events.
Children experimented with changing liquids, energy and forces, materials, electricity and living things. The children made predictions, carried out experiments, recorded their results and reflected on their outcomes.
Some of the classes were also very fortunate to be afforded the opportunity to attend some of the workshops in the library which were organised by Cavan and Monaghan Science Festival School's Programme. The children in Senior Infants were mesmerised by 'Bubbly Maths'. This workshop comprised of magical soap bubbles and giant balloons! These were used to discover the maths and science of bubbles and to explore the mathematical fundamentals of shape and measurement. Other classes also enjoyed a very entertaining workshop on Science Storytelling. The younger audience were engaged in some wonderful stories about the world around us.
We are very fortunate here in Monaghan to have so many wonderful events made available to schools throughout Science Week and all the staff in St. Louis Infant School would like to acknowledge the wonderful work carried out by Cavan Monaghan Science Festival. All the children and indeed the teachers thoroughly enjoyed the workshops we attended.
The fun-filled events were an ideal way to develop an interest in the the world around us and at the same time develop the creativity of the children. Science Week gave each of the classes the opportunity to explore and investigate many areas of the Science curriculum in a very fun and hands on experience.
